How To Match Wood Blinds

Matching Wood Blinds, Faux Wood Blinds and Plantation Shutters to Your Home’s Interior is Easy…Just Follow these Quick Steps

You’ve narrowed down your window treatment choices to wood blinds or shutters and are eager to place your order when it dawns on you, just what finish will work best with your home’s interior?

The truth is that matching the finish of your blinds and shutters to the other colors and finishes in your home is a breeze if you take the following into consideration:

  1. Does the room have existing wood in it and if so, what color is the finish on the existing wood?
  2. While you do not have to match the existing finish color exactly, you will want to mirror it somewhat, so if you have dark finishes in the room, you will want to look at dark finishes (such as russet or mahogany) for your wood window treatments, which includes wood blinds, faux wood blinds and wood plantation shutters.
  3. If you do not have existing wood in the room, take some time to consider your unique style and the style of the room. You will want to compliment these with your window treatments. For instance, if you are choosing wood blinds or shutters for an airy waterfront property that is decorated in lighter hues, a lighter finish is a must (such as alabaster or a natural finish). You may even want to look into bleached finishes or white finishes. On the other hand, if you are ordering wood window treatments for a study that is decorated in warm tones, you will want to lean toward a warmer finish, gravitating toward the medium, warmer tones (such as a golden oak).
  4. Darker finishes (such as chestnut, walnut, mahogany, etc.) can really hope to dress-up a room, but you don’t want to opt for these darker finishes if your room boasts light hardwood floors or light fabrics, furniture and accessories. These darker finishes are best when matched up with like finishes on existing furniture or for use when looking to create a more dramatic flair or a warmer room overall.
