How to Measure for Plantation Shutters
Despite their high-end designer looks, Plantation Shutters are deceptively easy to measure for. All you need is a measuring tape or yardstick.
You simply measure the width and the height at three points each, so three points across, going side-to-side with your measuring tape at the 1) top of the window, 2) middle of the window, and 3) bottom of the window and three points from top-to-bottom, using your measuring tape to take measures at the 1) right side of the window, 2) middle of the window, and 3) left side of the window.
You will also want to measure your window's backspace, which is the part of the window that will be utilized for louver clearance and operation. Standard Size Plantation Shutters require at least 5/8" of backspace.
When measuring backspace, be sure to take into consideration anything that may inhibit the louvers from opening all the way, such as window trim, locks, opening cranks, or even the window itself.
