Modern Wallets

Wallets are often made of leather. Of all materials used in making wallets, leather certainly stands out. In fact, the earliest wallets in history were made of leather. Wallets came into being right after paper currency was introduced in the West. This was 1600s. In fact, the first paper currency, which preceded leather wallets but not by much, was made of corn paper in 1690 in the Massachusetts Bay colony. Prior to that, leather pouches were more serviceable than leather wallets since they had to store coins, the only currency then known. These early leather wallets came from cow or horse hide and had a small pouch for calling cards.

Today's mens leather wallets are not very different from the leather wallets of before except for the card slots that were added when credit cards were introduced in the '50s. Another notable variation in wallet varieties was in the '70s when Velcro wallets became the latest trend. Wallets today are available in various shapes, sizes, and designs.

There are wallets (thin enough to be noticeable. This is to inhibit theft. There is another variety of wallets with a leather string attached designed to be strung around the neck and concealed under the clothes also for the same purpose.

Men's wallets are really simple. A bifold is enough for them. For women, their wallet should go with their attire, where they are going, and how much they are carrying with them. Here are several traveling wallets for women:

* For women who are always on the go, there's the space-saving front pocket wallet. It is intended to be carried in the front pocket and is somewhat rounded and flat. This can hold the usual wallet contents: cash, credit and identification cards, and change. These wallets are commonly made of Napa leather in colors of brown and black. But you might also want those that has a little splash of colors like pink, blue, and green.

* The taxi wallets, commonly known as Tony Perotti's taxi wallet, has three zipped partitions for bills, cards, and change. It has a front flap that secures the compartments well. They come in black and brown colors.

* Next is a wallet small enough to conceal easily but big enough to carry cash, cards, change, and a number of other things. This is the Ultimo leather weekend wallet. It's got two stash and two internal pockets. It is made of hand-dyed leather and available in cognac, chocolate brown, or black.

* The classic all-in-one wallet is the money clip wallet. You can carry it anywhere. It has a clip at the center that holds your cash and additional compartments for cards and change. You can choose from among neutral colors of black, brown, and honey.

* Rustico's leather weekend wallet is also created by Tony Perotti. This wallet is very easy to carry around. It has center pockets for change and other things you may have with you. It's got an ID window on the back side and has enough card slots inside. These are available in one color, the ever neutral brown.
